I marveled at this tiny home when I found it on YouTube. Brenda Kelly built this incredible home out of two cargo containers. She combined an 8x40 container with an additional 8x20 to create roughly 484 square feet of living space.
The home stands out with its prominent blue and white colors but to me the highlight was the patio area that has a beautiful deck, surrounded by glass and clear blinds. The area adds onto the house, opening it up to amazing views. Kelly mentions how she uses this area to entertain and I can see why.
Her cargo container home is also eco friendly. She installed solar panels that feed into the grid and she sells her energy back during the day and buys a lesser amount back at night. She runs 240 volts of power at no cost and is able to operate all the common amenities a traditional home would carry.
She also utilizes a vermiculture water treatment system that is gravity based
and does not need a pump. She uses the waterrun off from her flashing to feed into a 1000 liter water tank. The water she collects saves her 45% off of her water cost.
She also ties into the water main for potable water, but the runoff feeds her
shower and clothes washer.
Overall the home is amazing and she was able to get an awesome deal on the land
as it slopes. For a cargo container home, this does not pose a problem, as all
you need to support are the four corners of the container as the frame is
reinforced by steel.
The total cost of the home is roughly $84,000 without installation or the
foundation. The video was posted byLiving Big in a Tiny House and runs roughly thirteen
minutes. Below you can find more pictures of this tiny home along with the video.I hope it
inspires you as much as it inspired me :)
