Looking for an innovative way to build a swimming pool? With the national average cost of an in ground swimming pool hitting just below forty-seven thousand dollars (according to HomeAdvisor), a cargo container may present a lower cost alternative to your swimming needs.
When I found this YouTube video I became instantly intrigued; especially when the producer (Home Design Inspiration) claimed this can be done in six easy steps (I summarize these below). Granted after watching the video it sounds like this is no easy project by no means, however, it does sound feasible and cost efficient.
When you consider you can by a one trip cargo container for less than five thousand dollars (I personally wouldn't want to try this with any other grade since you need to ensure it structurally sound), and if you can do the leg work described by yourself, this definitely poses an interesting alternative to a traditional pool.
I think this idea is pretty intriguing and given the video is only four minutes long, I think it worth the watch. I hope you enjoy and happy swimming :)
Cargo Container Pool in Six Easy Steps:
1. Check on building restrictions within your area and apply for a permit (if you are in Phoenix, Arizona click the link to our blog post on obtaining a permit).
2. Consult a structural engineer to ensure the cargo container can withstand the weight of the water inside.
3. Decide on height of the swimming pool, cut the container to size, and smooth out the sharp edges.
4. Make the container watertight.
5. Add the plumbing and pumps.
6. Install the pool.
