I found this pretty cool video of an off the grid shipping container home that I felt was worth sharing.
What I loved the most was how the creator, HoneyBox ( http://www.honeybox.ca/
), used the principles used on a cargo ship to reinforce this beauty that was made up of three 20' shipping containers.
The amazing structure was built on a mountaintop in British Columbia, Canada with the center shipping container bolted to a cement block foundation that utilizes twist locks.
The two outer 20' cargo containers are cantilevered using lashing rods to add stability and strength. They are attached to the middle shipping container as is done while they travel on the water so it makes sense to copy the idea on land.
I also think it gives the off the grid home a pretty cool look!
The home has 800 Watts of solar panels to power the 12-volt system for lights, outlets, and a water pump.
For heat there is a wood stove and propane is utilized for the fridge, hot water, and cooktop. It has all the amenities you would want while also capturing a unique look with large windows that ensure you take in sweeping mountain views.
The owner transports in drinking water, but has a pretty cool setup to catch water for showers and his composting toilet. You will have to check it out in the video but I'm sure you will be impressed.
Hope you enjoy the video as this is a pretty cool shipping container modification and build.
